Lisbellaw
The
village is built around the Church, which stands high at its centre
and dates from the 18th Century. This creates a pleasing vista and
gives an insight into the power of the Church in society, but it
also creates several steep hills – keeping the locals fit!
The village has a population over 1000 and is a busy intersection.
The bunting in the pictures is in place to decorate the village
for the 12th of July celebrations of King William’s victory
of 1690. The steep, tight main street houses a variety of local
shops and bars as well as the immaculate Parish Centre.
There are several interesting and unique shops here, providing
great interest to anybody seeking an alternative from the ubiquitous
shopping experience which is becoming the international norm, as
Forge Antiques here testifies…
Just outside the village is Carrybridge, a Marina on Upper Lough
Erne. Carrybridge is beautiful and worth a visit just to see, even
if there is no intention of taking a cruise.
