A Lively Atmosphere
Derrygonnelly
is a village, which dates from the 1830s. Located in the west
of the County, Derrygonnelly is home to just under 1000 people.
With a harmonious main street lined with two storey houses, shops
and bars, it forms the hub for the surrounding rural area.
Just
north of the village is a small ruined church that combines medieval
and Renaissance features, built in 1627 by Sir John Dunbar. His
arms are over the doorway. As well as Lower Lough Erne to the north,
Derrygonnelly is surrounded by small lakes and the Sillees River,
which is popular with Canoeists.
Derrygonnelly is a good base from which to explore the surrounding
Lakeland, with several B&Bs and some lively pubs, noted
for their music.
