On the Shore of Lower Lough Erne
Blaney
is towards the west of Fermanagh, on the southern coast of Lower
Lough Erne. Lying close to Derrygonnelly, Blaney is not a heavily
populated area but enjoys some beautiful scenery.
Here there are hills, trees, rocky slopes and water all acting
in concert to give the area a very welcoming feel for any visitor.
Just
outside of the Blaney area can be found Monea Castle. The Castle
is dramatically ruined and set above a valley, with a fantastic
view all around. Built in 1618 by Malcolm Hamilton, the Rector of
Devenish, the Castle had a chequered history until the Hamilton's
were elevated to the peerage and moved on to grander surroundings.
